Father Fernando was born on December 12, 1961, in Anserma-Caldas, Colombia. He was the second of eight children born to Maria Enoe Restrepo and Gildardo Luis Molina. He has four sisters and three brothers. After completing high school in Anserma-Caldas in 1980, Fernando served for one year in the army in Colombia. In 1982, after completing military service, he worked in radio communications for a major oil company in Bogota Colombia and began studying economics at the Military University of Colombia. Feeling spiritually conflicted; he did not complete this course of study, but began to consider the possibility of entering the seminary.
During the fall of 1987 while in his mid twenties, Fernando became a missionary in México and remained there with a religious community for almost two years. While in Monterrey-Nuevo León, México, he formally started philosophical studies. He then returned to Bogotá, and finished his studies of philosophy in December of 1991.
In 1992, due to several life altering events, including his father’s illness and eventual death, Fernando left the seminary. During this time he worked to help support his mother and family and eventually made the decision to move to England to study English.
In 1994, Fernando came to New York with the intention of joining a Diocese in the United States. He contacted the Rev. Fr. Don Kenny of the Archdiocese of Atlanta and following his interview in New York he was accepted as a seminarian for Atlanta. He enrolled in Saint Vincent Seminary located in Latrobe, Pennsylvania and started studies there in January of 1995.
During the summer of 1995, he worked in the Office of Vocations in Atlanta while attending Georgia Tech to improve his English. Other summers he served at Saint Gabriel in Fayetteville; St. Thomas Aquinas in Alpharetta; and Holy Trinity in Peachtree City. Fernando was ordained as a deacon on July 1, 1998 at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Atlanta, and his first assignment as an ordained minister was at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Peachtree City. He returned to the Seminary in Pennsylvania to complete his studies and served during the weekends at Saint Bernard of Clair Vaux in Indiana, Pennsylvania.
Father Fernando finished his theological studies in 1999 and received two master’s degrees from Saint Vincent’s: the first, a Masters Degree in Religious Education and the other a Masters of Divinity Degree. During this time he also obtained many unforgettable memories of the frigidly cold winters in the northern part of the United States.
Father Fernando was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Atlanta on June 12, 1999 at Saint Catherine of Sienna in Kennesaw and returned to Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Peachtree City where he had previously served as a deacon. He remained there for two years, after which he went to Saint Michael in Gainesville, and then to Saint Joseph in Marietta. On June 19, 2003, he started his new assignment as pastor of Christ our King and Savior in Greensboro where he participated in a capital campaign and construction of their new church sanctuary. In 2005 he was then named administrator of Our Lady of the Americas in Lilburn where he worked to acquire a new location and church sanctuary and after four years at that assignment he was named pastor of Saint Theresa parish in Douglasville where he has been humbly and happily serving our Lord and His people since July 1, 2009.
Father Fernando has always enjoyed good times creating happy memories with family and friends and modestly admits that he can dance. When he visits his family in Colombia or his four siblings who live in Madrid, Spain, he always tries new things like the Tablado-Flamenco. Not that he can do it, but he rejoices with the music and joyful way of celebrating life!
El Padre Fernando nació el 12 de diciembre de 1961, en Anserma, Caldas, Colombia. Fue el segundo de ocho hijos de Maria Enoe Restrepo y Gildardo Luis Molina. Tiene cuatro hermanas y tres hermanos. Después de terminar la escuela secundaria en Anserma, Caldas en 1980, sirvió un año en el ejército en Colombia. En 1982, una vez terminó el servicio militar, trabajó para una importante compañía petrolera en Bogotá Colombia, en radio-comunicaciones y comenzó a estudiar economía en la Universidad Militar de Colombia. Sintiéndose espiritualmente en conflicto, no completó este curso de estudio y empezó a considerar la posibilidad de entrar en el seminario.
Durante el otoño de 1987, cuando tenía sus veintiséis años, se convirtió en misionero en México y permaneció allí con una comunidad religiosa durante casi dos años. Cuando estaba en Monterrey-Nuevo León, México, inició formalmente los estudios filosóficos. Luego regresó a Bogotá, y terminó sus estudios de filosofía en diciembre de 1991.
En 1992, debido a varios acontecimientos que alteraron su vida, incluyendo la enfermedad y eventualmente la muerte de su padre, el dejó el seminario. Durante este tiempo trabajó para ayudar a su madre y a su familia y posteriormente tomó la decisión de trasladarse a Inglaterra para estudiar ingles.
En 1994, El Padre Fernando llegó a Nueva York con la intención de unirse a una Diócesis en los Estados Unidos. Contactó al Rev. Padre Don Kenny de la Arquidiócesis de Atlanta y después de su entrevista en Nueva York fue aceptado como seminarista de Atlanta. Se matriculó en el Seminario San Vicente situado en Latrobe, Pennsylvania donde comenzó sus estudios en enero de 1995.
En el verano de 1995 trabajó en la Oficina de Vocaciones en Atlanta mientras asistía al Georgia Tech para mejorar su Inglés. Durante otros veranos sirvió en San Gabriel en Fayetteville, Santo Tomás de Aquinas en Alpharetta, y La Santísima Trinidad en la ciudad de Peachtree. El Padre Fernando fue ordenado diácono el 1 de julio de 1998 en la catedral Cristo Rey en Atlanta, y su primera misión como ministro ordenado fue en la Iglesia Católica La Santísima Trinidad de la ciudad de Peachtree. Regresó al seminario en Pennsylvania para completar sus estudios y trabajó los fines de semana en San Bernardo de Clair-Vaux en Indiana, Pennsylvania.
El Padre Fernando terminó sus estudios de teología en 1999 y recibió dos maestrías en San Vicente: la primera, en Educación Religiosa y la segunda en Divinidad. Durante este tiempo también obtuvo muchos recuerdos inolvidables de los fuertes inviernos en el norte de los Estados Unidos.
El Padre Fernando fue ordenado sacerdote para la Arquidiócesis de Atlanta el 12 de junio de 1999 en Santa Catalina de Siena en Kennesaw y regresó a la Iglesia Católica La Santísima Trinidad de la ciudad de Peachtree, donde había servido previamente como diácono. Permaneció allí por dos años después de lo cual se trasladó a San Miguel en Gainesville y luego a San José en Marietta. El 19 de junio de 2003, comenzó su nueva misión como pastor de Cristo Nuestro Rey y Salvador en Greensboro, donde participó en la campaña capital y la construcción del nuevo santuario de la Iglesia. En 2005 fue entonces nombrado Administrador de Nuestra Señora de las Américas en Lilburn, donde trabajó para adquirir una nueva localidad y el Santuario de la iglesia y después de cuatro años de esta asignación fue nombrado párroco de la parroquia de Santa Teresita en Douglasville, donde con humildad y alegría ha estado al servicio de nuestro Señor y su pueblo desde el 01 de julio 2009.
El Padre Fernando siempre ha disfrutado de buenos momentos creando recuerdos inolvidables con familiares y amigos y con modestia admite que puede bailar. Cuando visita a su familia en Colombia o a sus cuatro hermanos que viven en Madrid, España, siempre trata cosas nuevas como el tablado-flamenco. No es que él pueda hacerlo, pero él se regocija con la música y la alegría de celebrar la vida!
